His mom was in the\u00a0hospital and he just found out she was diagnosed with West Nile<br \/>\nVirus!<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;05px&#8221;]<br \/>\nHis mom, Maureen has just turned 65 a few months earlier and had\u00a0signed up for a Medicare Advantage plan because she was healthy\u00a0and there were no major medical issues that ran in her family.\u00a0But now, they realized she would immediately hit her \u201cMaximum\u00a0Out of Pocket\u201d which was $5,000 a year with accumulated co-pays\u00a0on her Medicare Advantage plan she selected. She never dreamed\u00a0she would get sick and spend that kind of money in co-pays during\u00a0a calendar year. She usually just had her yearly wellness check\u00a0which was at no cost on her Advantage plan, as well as the no cost\u00a0to see her primary care physician.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;05px&#8221;]<br \/>\nIn discussing this with her son, he remembered her explaining the\u00a0difference between a Medicare Advantage network plan and a\u00a0Medicare Supplement \u201cMedigap\u201d plan where she would have a\u00a0monthly fee but no co-pays. Maureen asked her son to call our\u00a0office to see what her options were.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;05px&#8221;]<br \/>\nAfter reviewing her enrollment date, we found that she was still in\u00a0her first twelve months of her trial period with Medicare. This\u00a0meant that she could drop her Advantage plan and go back to\u00a0original Medicare and select a Medigap with a Part D drug plan\u2026\u00a0no questions asked!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;05px&#8221;]<br \/>\nThey were both thrilled and switched as fast as we could complete\u00a0the applications for a first-of-the-month start on her new plans.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s not that her current Advantage plan was bad, it\u2019s just that she\u00a0was going to spend a lot more in co-pays than the $138 a month for\u00a0her Medigap premium that would cover all her Medical portions of\u00a0leftover bills after Medicare paid their portion.<br \/>\nNot sure what your coverage is?
