Dale was a veteran, and while he didn\u2019t use the VA medical services very often, he felt that in retirement he would just continue to use VA, not recognizing the need to get anything else for medical coverage.<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;03px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Sherrie, like many other folks, have seen all the media with negative stories about the status of health care at the VA hospitals and was concerned about any major medical issues Dale might encounter in the future.<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;03px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Sherrie had an appointment to meet with us, seven months before her 65<sup>th<\/sup> birthday about her Medicare options. She gently urged her husband to come with her to learn about all the possibilities that are available to him in addition to his VA medical services.<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;03px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>At their meeting, we reviewed all the Medicare options available in their zip code. Sherrie had a general idea of<br \/>\nservices, as she had already attended one of our Medicare workshops. Dale was amazed at all the different choices<br \/>\nthat were also available to him via Medicare.<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;03px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>What we were able to convey to Dale was that he can always keep his VA medical services, but <strong><em><u>why not<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 sign up for a Medicare Advantage plan in Maricopa County? This would give him access to an entire medical network besides VA at no monthly cost.<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;03px&#8221;]<br \/>\nAfter reviewing several Medicare Advantage plans, he was delighted that one of his old doctors was on a network that he could join and rekindle that doctor patient relationship.<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;03px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-seven of the thirty-four plans have a $0 monthly premium, he can see his Primary Doctor in his network for free, and just pay co-pays for other services. He would also have the ability to get his prescription medication at VA <strong><em><u>or<\/u><\/em><\/strong> through his Medicare Advantage plan. This way he can use VA <strong><em><u>or<\/u><\/em><\/strong> his private Medicare Advantage plan for medical services.<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;03px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Sherrie breathed a small sigh of relief and now had some piece of mind that Dale had alternative medical coverage should the need arise.<\/p>\n<p>[spacer height=&#8221;03px&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Know a veteran that might need assistance with reviewing Medicare plans as an addition to Veteran\u2019s Administration benefits?
