\r\n The Affordable Care Act is still a hotbed of<\/span>\r\n  controversy. My point of view is not political,<\/span>\r\n  it\u2019s practical. We have hundreds of clients that<\/span>\r\n  are under the age of 65 and covered on<\/span>\r\n  individual health insurance plans. It should<\/span>\r\n  really be called \"The Available Care Act.\" I<\/span>\r\n  think we all agree that every American has a<\/span>\r\n  right to purchase healthcare without question<\/span>\r\n  of pre-existing conditions. The late Senator<\/span>\r\n  Kennedy pushed for this right for most of his<\/span>\r\n  career. Our current president made it his<\/span>\r\n  purpose to get it passed into law.<\/span>\r\n  Here we are six years later...<\/span>\r\n \r\n

\r\n<\/pre>\n
The good:<\/strong><\/span>\r\n Everyone is approved for health insurance<\/span>\r\n coverage. Everyone, of the same age, pays the<\/span>\r\n same rate regardless of health. Every plan<\/span>\r\n limits your maximum annual liability to $6850<\/span>\r\n or less on some plans(in 2016).<\/span>\r\n\r\n

\r\n<\/pre>\n
The bad:<\/strong><\/span>\r\n For married folks with incomes above<\/span>\r\n $60,000, most plans have a $5,000-$6,000<\/span>\r\n deductible. The plans are mostly network<\/span>\r\n based with brand new networks. It\u2019s hard to<\/span>\r\n find your current doctors on any plan.<\/span>\r\n Many folks, that qualify for a subsidy or not,<\/span>\r\n still can\u2019t afford coverage or the deductible.<\/span><\/pre>\n
\r\n

\r\n\r\nThe ugly:<\/strong><\/span>\r\n Insurance companies were promised, by the<\/span>\r\n federal government, to be reimbursed if they<\/span>\r\n lost money in the first 3 years. The government<\/span>\r\n reneged and did not pay as promised. One<\/span>\r\n local carrier lost in excess of $91,000,000 in<\/span>\r\n 2015. I don\u2019t know about you, but that\u2019s a lot<\/span>\r\n of money for a relatively small insurance<\/span>\r\n company to absorb in one year. In 2014, that<\/span>\r\n same company lost $92,000,000 on policy holders covered under the Affordable Care Act plans.<\/span>\r\n 2017 will be interesting. We are getting requests daily for solutions.<\/span>\r\n Many underage 65 individual plans will not be available in 2017. Blue<\/span>\r\n Cross Blue Shield of Arizona and United Healthcare are not offering<\/span>\r\n any plans in Maricopa County. Aetna has stated it will not offer plans<\/span>\r\n via Healthcare.gov (on exchange) but will offer off-exchange plans. No<\/span>\r\n word as of 8\/16\/16 as to Cigna, HealthNet, Healthchoice, Humana or<\/span>\r\n Phoenix Health.<\/span><\/pre>\n
