So many things have happened in the month of October throughout history. It\u2019s almost like opening a time capsule of our lives. The list is so long that we\u2019ll just keep it to events that happened in the good old U.S.A.<\/p>\n
From our childhood memories of early TV shows, we had the October premiers of \u201cI Love Lucy\u201d in 1951, and \u201cThe Twilight Zone\u201d in 1959.
\nMickey Mouse made his first appearance in the brand-new Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida (1971).<\/p>\n
Like Snoopy and the gang? \u201cPeanuts\u201d comic strip premiered for the first time in 1950. Thank you, Sparky!<\/p>\n
October 1881 was the famous OK Corral shootout between the Earp\u2019s and Ike Clanton gang.<\/p>\n
France presented the USA with the Statue of Liberty (1886).<\/p>\n
Inventor Thomas Edison showed the first motion picture in October 1889. That same day, the first
\nmovie critic happened (Ha-Ha)!<\/p>\n
The U.S. Navy was created (1775).<\/p>\n
October 1921 \u201csaw\u201d the Baseball\u2019s World Series broadcast on radio for the first time.<\/p>\n
The Revolutionary War officially ended in October 1781. Hostilities had ended much earlier.<\/p>\n
The United Nations came into existence in 1945 and was nurtured by President Eisenhower after World War II.<\/p>\n
Women were not to be left out of historical October events. An estimated 25,000 women marched through the streets of New York City demanding the right to vote in 1915! And in more modern times, America\u2019s first woman to walk in space (Kathryn Sullivan)\u00a0happened in October 1984.<\/p>\n
There were some dark dates in October as well, which included;<\/strong><\/p>\n The New York stock exchange crashed in 1929 and started the great depression.<\/p>\n Magician Harry Houdini died from a ruptured appendix in 1926.<\/p>\n In 1962 the \u201cCuban Missile Crisis\u201d began.<\/p>\n It was also a bad month for Mobster Al Capone as he was convicted of tax evasion in 1931.<\/p>\n As we deal with Halloween in October<\/strong> every year, remember it was originally a celebration to appease ghosts and spirits by giving them candy and treats, so they would leave you in peace. The holiday had some of its earlier origins in the British Isles by the Celts.
