We all have had an experience at one time or another of feeling slightly out of touch. Maybe it was a breaking news item, or a friend discussing the latest book or movie you have not been exposed to. I find this happening more often as we\u00a0get exposed to increasingly new information, entertainment, politics, etc. When\u00a0the out of touch moments happen, these incidents are what make you\u2026you!<\/p>\n
More and more, the \u201cout of touch\u201d syndrome is happening between grandkids\u00a0and grandparents. While we realize that kids are learning as they grow, we as\u00a0adults need to keep up with new technology to keep the communication open to
\nour younger family members.<\/p>\n
My co-worker was shopping for a gift for her grandson recently. She called her\u00a0daughter to get an idea of what to get as a gift? \u201cOh, he loves his Gameboy, just get him a new game cartridge,\u201d she instructed. Well, that seems simple enough\u00a0thought the grandmother. So off to the toy store to find a cartridge for the\u00a0grandson. No problem she thought. As she arrived at the store to shop for the\u00a0birthday gift, she was amazed at the hundreds of video game products, and\u00a0quickly realized she needed help. Spotting a salesperson, she flagged them
\ndown and asked, \u201cI\u2019m looking for a cartridge for my grandson\u2019s Playboy\u201d. The\u00a0clerk had a puzzled look and asked, \u201cHow old is your grandson?\u201d She replied\u00a0that he was seven. \u201cHmmm\u2026I think you mean Gameboy?\u201d After realizing what\u00a0she had originally asked and the mistake, they both had a good laugh! But it was\u00a0an out of touch moment!\u00a0My personal experience with out of touch happened while I was growing up and\u00a0visited our grandparents, who never owned a TV. There was always the radio in\u00a0the kitchen tuned to the local gospel music station, but no TV. Now, a positive\u00a0side effect to no TV was that we always had several books to read or board\u00a0games to play, and it forced us to go outside and play in the fresh air!<\/p>\n
On the other side of the coin, I often have a reverse out of touch moment with a\u00a0young person who does not know something that I would consider common\u00a0knowledge.<\/p>\n
